Darin and Niko // Anniversary Session // Santa Ynez, CA

When Darin and Niko came to me with their request for a styled anniversary photo shoot commemorating 10 years together, through thick and thin, I was so excited to help give them photographs and an experience to remember. I immediately could relate to their story of finding one another in high school, growing apart, then reconnecting as partners for life. I have a similar story with a certain someone 🙂

Niko, being a photographer herself, had a pretty clear vision of what she wanted. She wanted to capture the romance of a bygone era, which would prove to be quite easy given their extensive collection of love notes and poems written to each other over the years. They also had an affinity for antique cameras and typewriters that I was pretty excited to incorporate into the shoot. We worked with hair and makeup artist Tawni Jones of 19 Blue Salon to create a classic 1950s look and pulled clothes from local Santa Barbara stores and our own personal collections. Honea Vineyards in Santa Ynez was kind enough to let us romp around their property for a few hours and it was an absolute dream! From atop a hill on their property we watched the sun set on one side and the full moon rise on the other. All-in-all, despite running up and down the hill about a thousand times, it was a pretty magical shoot.

Adam and Katelyn // Wedding // Santa Barbara, CA

Adam and Katelyn are SO fun and adorable and I want to be best friends with them and I loved every single detail of their event.

They planned a beautiful wedding on East Beach, here in Santa Barbara, with a reception at the Cabrillo Pavillion Arts Center. A color palette of pale pink, grey and white looked stunning against the coastline backdrop. Florals and decorative elements by Shannon Neels made the day feel so personal and lavish.

At the reception, Katelyn and Adam’s 15-person wedding party and Rembrandt, an energetic live band from LA kept the dance floor packed all night, playing everything from Michael Jackson to Beyonce to Journey. I’ll let you guess which of those three I captured in the last few dance floor images of this post.

I actually cannot stop myself from dancing when good music is playing. My body involuntarily moves to a beat, so I was doing a lot of dance photographing at this wedding. It’s the latest in photographic techniques 🙂

I hope you enjoy these photos as much as I enjoyed taking them!

Vintage Botanic Wedding Inspiration // Featured on 100 Layer Cake

I’m doing my happy dance today. And if you’ve ever seen me eat a molten chocolate lava cake, you know what that looks like.

Today, my images from the fall/winter issue of Louisville Bride are featured on 100 Layer Cake and I couldn’t be more proud of the dream team that made this all possible (see below). We were inspired by vintage botanical prints, greenhouses, and lush, wild bouquets. We focused on a berry, blush, and plum color palette with gold accents to enhance all the greenery Yew Dell Botanical Gardens provided as our backdrop. We even got to use the castle on Yew Dell’s property to help us capture an old-world spirit. Yes, that’s right, I said castle. And can we talk about the gowns, the impeccable florals, the signature cocktail and those gorgeous cakes? They still make me a little weak in the knees when I see them!

I cannot thank 100 Layer Cake enough for loving this wedding inspiration as much as I do. Now, without further ado, here are some of my favorite images.
